Latvian surgeons help Ukrainian soldier regain movement
Ukrainian soldier Serhii Dzon, who suffered a severe spinal injury on the front line, has received microsurgical treatment and rehabilitation in Latvia that restored sensation and movement on his left side. A further operation is planned for September.

Ukrainian soldier Serhii Dzon sustained a severe spinal injury on the front line that left him without feeling in his left arm and unable to control movement across nearly the entire left side of his body. Thanks to the work of Latvian microsurgeons, he is now able to walk with the help of a cane and has regained sensation in his left hand, which he can use for everyday tasks.
This is Serhii's second time coming to Latvia for rehabilitation. His treatment is ongoing — on September 4 he is scheduled for another back operation aimed at further addressing the effects of his injury.
The case reflects the contribution of Latvian surgeons and rehabilitation specialists in treating Ukrainian soldiers for injuries sustained on the battlefield. His rehabilitation is taking place at a facility known as "Jaunķemeri".
