Preparations have started in Latvia for LALIGABA, the Latvian Literature Year Prize, one of the central events in the country's literary calendar. Every spring the prize is awarded to the best authors, translators and promoters of literature. The latest news comes from the prize organisers themselves.

A newly formed expert commission has begun its work and is evaluating the literary results of 2026. The commission's assessment is the first stage of this year's selection process, which leads to the award ceremony the following spring.

Motto of the ceremony

The 2027 ceremony will be held under the motto «LALIGABA is leafing out!». The motto points to the season in which the prize is traditionally presented.

The announcement does not name the commission members, the nominees or the exact date of the ceremony. The organisers have so far made public only that work on assessing the literature of 2026 has begun.
