A new Athletes' Commission was elected on Thursday at the Athletes' Forum of the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC). It has seven members. The commission represents athletes' interests within the organisation that leads the Olympic movement in Latvia.

Experienced canoeist Roberts Akmens has been appointed to chair the commission. His deputy will be Anastasija Grigorjeva, who had a successful career as an athlete in freestyle wrestling.

In an interview with Latvian Radio, Grigorjeva said she and her colleagues on the commission want to work towards ensuring that athletes receive support both during their careers and after they end.

The source does not say what specific measures the commission plans or who its other members are.
