Latvian U16 Athletes Win Baltic Team Championship, Set Five National Records
Latvian youth athletes in the U16 category claimed victory at the Baltic Team Championship in Valmiera on Tuesday, earning 19 gold medals and setting five new national records.

Team Victory
Held in Valmiera, the Baltic Team Championship for U16 athletes saw a dominant performance from Latvia, which amassed 282 points. Estonia finished second with 244.5 points, while Lithuania came third with 198.5 points. The Latvian team collected a total of 19 gold, 10 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Five National Records
During the competition, five Latvian U16 records were broken. The first was set by Edvards Krūms in the 300m hurdles, winning in 38.68 seconds—0.08 seconds faster than the previous record. In the girls' 300m hurdles, Daniela Kužuma clocked 43.16 seconds, surpassing Ginta Toma's record from 1990 (43.5 seconds).
In the 1500m steeplechase, Una Pērkone improved her own record for the third time, finishing in 5:14.29. Agnese Bērziņa broke her own discus throw record with a 47.47m effort, set just a week earlier. The fifth record came in the mixed relay (2:07.93), run by Darja Kuzmina, Edvards Bendžamins Torps, Daniela Kužuma, and Matiass Duburs.
Individual Achievements
Several athletes won two events: Ivars Steinbergs (hammer throw and discus), Edvards Krūms (110m hurdles and 300m hurdles), and Agnese Bērziņa (shot put and discus). Additionally, nine young athletes achieved new season bests. The championship highlighted the high level and potential of Latvian youth athletics.
