Latvian waters warm up to 24°C – cooler weather expected soon
In many rivers and lakes across Latvia, water temperatures have risen above 20°C, locally reaching 24°C. The sea along the open coast remains colder, but a change is on the way with strengthening winds and a cooler next week.

According to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre and municipalities, water temperatures in most rivers and lakes now exceed 20°C. In the Gulf of Riga, temperatures are around 20°C, but in Bulduri and Majori on Thursday evening, the water reached 23°C. The open Baltic Sea coast is significantly cooler – in Ventspils port, only 14°C were recorded on Friday morning.
Lakes and reservoirs range from 20 to 24°C, while larger rivers are between 19 and 24°C. Smaller rivers remain cooler, at 16–18°C. In the coming day, a strengthening south and southeast wind may cool the coastal seawater. Next week’s colder weather will also lower water temperatures in rivers and lakes. Precipitation forecasts are uncertain, with possible heavy downpours. Swimmers should monitor updates as water temperatures are expected to change.
