Presidents of Lithuania and Latvia oppose reinstating border controls between countries
The presidents of Lithuania and Latvia have spoken against restoring border checks between their nations, despite rising illegal migration from Belarus.

Due to an increased flow of illegal migrants from Belarus passing through Latvia, Lithuania has recently tightened controls on its border with Latvia. Discussions have emerged about possibly reintroducing border controls between the two countries, but both presidents reject such a move. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda described the idea as capitulation to the problem. Meanwhile, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs emphasized that the primary focus should be on protecting the European Union's external border. Their statements were made on the LSM program "Discuss This Evening."
