Heaney and Vuong in Latvian: Two New Poetry Translations
Two new poetry books translated from English have been published in Latvia: a selection of Irish poet Seamus Heaney’s work and a collection by American poet Ocean Vuong.

Two translated poetry books have recently appeared in Latvia, bringing the work of an Irish and an American poet to local readers. Both volumes stand out for their literary virtuosity and vivid personal narratives.
Seamus Heaney’s “100 Dzejoļi”
The publishing house Neputns has issued the selection “100 Dzejoļi” in its bilingual series. The translation is by Ieva Lešinska. The collection introduces Latvian readers to the work of the Irish poet.
Ocean Vuong’s “Nakts debesīs šautas brūces”
The literature and culture portal Punctum has released Ocean Vuong’s poetry book “Nakts debesīs šautas brūces”, translated from English by Linda Mence and Ivars Šteinbergs. The collection adds a deeply personal and emotional voice to contemporary poetry.
Together, these publications show that important international poets—from Ireland to the United States—continue to find their way into Latvian.
