Laura Loomer's Ukraine Reversal Stirs Up MAGA Civil War

Laura Loomer, who for years called Ukraine a “country full of Nazi apologists” and labeled pro-Ukraine politicians as “traitors,” has reversed her position after traveling to Kyiv. She has posted extensive content from Ukraine, including an interview with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and photos of herself eating McDonald's amid bombed-out buildings.

This shift comes amid a growing internal conflict within the MAGA movement. While figures like Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, and Marjorie Taylor Greene have publicly split with President Trump over broken promises, the Iran war, and ties to Israel, Loomer has remained loyal. She has also been battling Trump's detractors online, accusing Owens of trying to “destroy MAGA” after Owens' trip to Russia in May.

Loomer claims her change of heart was inspired by realizing she had been “propagandized by Russian media.” Trump, commenting on her trip, said: “I know what MAGA wants better than anybody else.”

Jared Holt, senior researcher at Open Measures, notes that Loomer's primary driver is her adoration of Trump, not a rigid ideology. “She has repeatedly shown a willingness to shift positions if she believes it will help the president,” Holt says.

The incident highlights that the MAGA civil war is playing out on social media, where influencers are willing to do anything to maintain their standing with the base.
