Black Friday, the major US shopping sale season, is still more than a month away, but electronics maker LG has already launched an early promotion. Through November 1st, it is cutting prices on the LG C6 OLED television and several soundbars.

In the US, the 55-inch C6 is currently $999.99, which is $400 below its usual price and the lowest the model has been. Retailers Amazon and Best Buy are matching that price. The 65-inch version costs $1,399.99, a $300 reduction, and is available from Amazon, Best Buy and LG itself. Customers who buy directly from LG also receive a free Xbox Wireless Controller and a wall mount.

What the C6 offers

Compared with last year's C5, the new television brings modest upgrades. It uses a faster Alpha 11 AI Gen3 processor, intended to improve picture and sound quality, and has a brighter display. The refresh rate for gaming rises from 144Hz to up to 165Hz. It keeps four HDMI 2.1 ports and support for AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync, which help reduce screen tearing in games.

The set supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos and has built-in streaming apps such as Netflix and HBO Max. Content can be shared from a phone through Google Cast and Apple AirPlay 2, while Matter support allows pairing with various smart home devices.

Data collection questions

Researchers recently raised concerns about how LG's smart TVs collect and log user data. The company has responded to some of the accusations, saying its TVs do not continuously record conversations and that voice recognition and interest-based advertising are optional features that are disabled by default. LG has not addressed every concern. The article's author notes that similar data-collection practices are not unique to LG devices.
