Lebanon: Three killed in Israeli overnight strikes, officials report
Lebanon's health ministry says three people were killed and 15 wounded in Israeli strikes on southern and eastern areas. The Israeli military said it targeted Hezbollah arms storage sites after a drone was launched toward its troops.
Lebanon's health ministry reported that three people died overnight in Israeli strikes on the country's south and east. According to the ministry, one person was killed and 15 others were injured in an attack on the town of Ramadiyah in the southern Tyre district, while two people died in the Nabatieh region. In total, strikes hit five locations across Nabatieh, Tyre and the eastern Bekaa region.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Saturday that operations were directed at Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon. The military said the strikes came in response to an attempted attack on IDF troops in the security zone the previous day, during which a drone was launched toward servicemen. The targets included weapons storage facilities used by the Iran-backed armed group, according to the IDF, which also released video footage appearing to show one of the strikes.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that operations to thwart terrorism were continuing in full force in Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank. Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in conflict since March, when the group launched rocket attacks in retaliation for the killing of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israel then resumed strikes on Lebanon and launched a ground invasion.
