Lidl invites shoppers to guess a mystery ice cream flavor
Latvian supermarket chain Lidl is offering customers ice cream with an undisclosed flavor, encouraging them to guess what it is and enjoy the surprise.

Retail chain Lidl has introduced a new promotional idea: ice cream sold without revealing its flavor. The concept is based on the notion that taste is one of the human senses that often goes unnoticed amid the rush of daily life.
When we already know a product tastes like, say, strawberry, chocolate or vanilla, our brain and taste buds don't pay much attention, since the flavor is already familiar. Tasting something completely new, on the other hand, draws full attention as we try to identify and understand the unfamiliar taste.
According to Lidl representative N. Podkopajeva, this is precisely why the company decided to offer customers ice cream with a hidden flavor, inviting each buyer to try guessing what it actually is. The company is not disclosing the flavor for now, so that everyone interested can enjoy the guessing process and experience an unexpected surprise when tasting the product.
With this campaign, Lidl continues its pattern of using unconventional marketing approaches to capture shoppers' attention, focusing on experience and emotion rather than a simple product description.
