Liepāja's Rožu Square will host the annual "Summer Harvest Market" on Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22, organized by the association "ETNO Liepāja". The event takes place ahead of the autumn season and the start of the new school year, marking the arrival of the fresh harvest.
Local produce and craftwork
Visitors will be able to buy fresh vegetables and fruit, honey and bread from farmers and small producers, along with homemade jams, fresh milk cheeses, pastries, flatbreads and decorated gingerbread. Homemade wines, smoked meats, sausages and fish will also be on offer.
In the crafts section, shoppers can find linen goods, knitwear made from kid goat wool, bags made from natural materials, amber and silver jewelry featuring traditional Latvian ethnographic patterns, leather belts, as well as wood and stone craft items and souvenirs bearing Latvian symbols.
Getting ready for the school year
Since the market falls right before the new school year begins, visitors can also pick up hats and scarves, along with hypoallergenic clothing for children and infants. Latvian-made cosmetics, children's games and dolls will be available as well.
Organizers say the goal of the event is to promote ecological products made in Latvia's regions, support small businesses, and encourage people to buy goods made from natural materials directly rather than turning to large retail stores.
The market at Rožu Square will be open from 10:00 to 18:00 on Friday, August 21, and from 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturday, August 22.
