Yellow air threat alert declared in Lithuania, fighter jets reportedly scrambled
Lithuania has declared a yellow air threat level in the Vilnius region and Ukmergė district over drone-related danger, warning residents via the national alert system. Unconfirmed reports say fighter jets have already been scrambled.

Lithuania declared a yellow air threat level on Friday, October 3, in the Vilnius region and Ukmergė district, citing drone-related danger. The Lithuanian media outlet "15min" reported on the situation.
Residents received a warning sent through the national alert system to mobile phones. Lithuania's National Crisis Management Centre explained that the yellow level signals a possible, not confirmed, threat — no dangerous object has been detected so far.
Authorities are urging people to identify in advance the nearest safe location, such as a basement, bathroom, or another windowless room, and to follow official updates. At the same time, reports are circulating that fighter jets have been scrambled in response to the possible drone threat.
How the alert system works
Lithuanian authorities clarify that an air threat warning is sent to residents' phones when it is confirmed, or considered possible, that an object endangering public safety may be present in national airspace. The yellow level on its own does not require people to immediately seek shelter — that becomes mandatory only if a red level is declared, indicating a dangerous object is already within the territory or likely to enter it soon. In that case, people should head immediately to the nearest shelter or, if none is available, find a safe windowless room and follow the two-wall principle.
The decision to issue the warning rests with the Lithuanian armed forces, which monitor the country's airspace, while the actual notification to residents is handled by the Lithuanian Fire and Rescue Department. Authorities are asking everyone to stay cautious and rely solely on official information.
