Lithuania Receives Over 8,100 Voluntary Applications for Mandatory Military Service
Lithuania has received more than 8,100 voluntary applications for mandatory military service this year, a record number reflecting growing security awareness among youth.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces’ Military Command Board announced on Tuesday that over 8,100 voluntary applications for initial mandatory military service have been submitted so far this year. Nearly 4,400 people volunteered before the annual draft lists were compiled, while about 3,700 applied for priority enlistment after the lists were published.
The Military Command Board stated that the record number of volunteers indicates increasing awareness among young people about the importance of national security and their role in Lithuania’s universal defence system. However, due to limited service positions, not all applicants will be able to serve.
The military also urged recent high school graduates and prospective university students not to postpone their education plans because of potential military service. Students who receive a draft notice can take academic leave, complete their service, and later resume their studies while retaining their place at the university.
