Lithuanian Footballer Named Best Player of May in Latvian Women's League

A Lithuanian midfielder from FK Auda has been named the best player of May in the Latvian Women's Football League. The 22-year-old scored three goals in four games and helped her team to two victories.

In May, FK Auda played four matches, winning two: against FK Iecava/FK Olaine (4-0) and Rīgas Futbola skola (5-0), and losing to Riga FC Women (1-3) and FS Metta (0-2). The Lithuanian started all four games and scored three goals: one against Katrīna Bunika (Iecava/Olaine) and two against Nikolaja Jeļšina (Rīgas Futbola skola).

With three goals, she shares the title of top scorer of her team and has the third-highest playing time. FK Auda has 15 points from nine games, placing fourth, tied with third-placed FS Metta. Leaders Riga FC Women have won all eight matches and are three points ahead.

The winner was determined by combining social media votes and evaluations from team representatives. Other nominees were Kumba Brima (Riga FC Women) and Sofija Gergeležiu (RFS Women). The prize is a €100 gift card from sportswear store Sportland.

Last month's (March/April) best player was Katrīna Daņilova, a forward from Riga FC Women.
