Lithuanian President Condemns Russian Strike on Kyiv Pechersk Lavra as 'Sacrilege'
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda condemned the Russian missile strike that damaged the historic Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, calling it a mad disregard for human life and cultural heritage.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda strongly condemned the Russian strikes on Kyiv that resulted in damage to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. In a post on social media platform X, he emphasized that the attack demonstrated a reckless disregard for human lives and cultural heritage, as well as the very spiritual tradition that Russia claims to uphold. "For the aggressor, nothing is sacred... It is time to increase international pressure on Russia to end this war!" he stated.
The massive attack on Kyiv caused a fire on the territory of the Lavra. The Kyiv City Military Administration reported a direct hit and significant damage. Metropolitan Epifaniy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine called the strike "another crime against humanity" in a social media post.
Ukraine is initiating all relevant procedures within UNESCO and other international mechanisms, demanding an immediate and adequate response to the Russian strike on the Lavra.
