Lithuanian Woman Rasa Loses 42 Kilograms After Gastric Reduction Surgery

Rasa, a woman from Lithuania, told the news portal Delfi in an interview how she lost 42 kilograms after gastric reduction surgery, a surgical method of weight loss. Before the operation she was 164 centimetres tall and weighed 105 kilograms. She stresses that she is now happier and healthier than before.

A long struggle with weight

Rasa had been plump since childhood. It did not bother her as a child, and she says she faced little teasing, but in her teens she began to realise that excess weight caused her problems: her friends went on dates, while nobody asked her out.

She tried various diets, including celery soup and an egg diet, but the results were short-lived. Medication also helped only temporarily, and she later regained twice as many kilograms as she had lost. She did not want to exercise because movement was painful, and she was embarrassed to go to classes.

Health forced the decision

Rasa has three daughters, and for a time she came to terms with the situation. When she was 43, she often had headaches and felt unwell. A family doctor diagnosed hypertension, as her blood pressure was constantly 170/120, and she had to take several medications every day. Her health was also affected by acid reflux, as well as back and joint pain. After consultations with doctors, she was advised to have gastric reduction surgery.

Reactions from others

After she lost the weight, people around her reacted in different ways: some no longer recognised her on the street, while others openly said she had looked prettier when she was plumper. Rasa does not deny that she has more wrinkles since losing weight.
