Man Arrested After Causing Accident and Brandishing Weapon-Like Object in Līvāni

Police arrested a man on Friday evening who had caused a traffic accident in Līvāni, then fled the scene while brandishing an object resembling a weapon. No one was injured in the crash.

State Police have detained a man who caused a traffic accident in Līvāni on Friday afternoon and then fled on foot, waving an object that looked like a weapon. A criminal investigation has been launched.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Rīgas Street. The driver of a Volkswagen Passat, for reasons yet unknown, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a BMW. After the collision, the Passat driver got out of his vehicle and left the scene.

Eyewitness video circulated on social media shows the man holding an object that appears to be a weapon. Some witnesses even tried to drive away from him out of fear. Police initial information also confirms that the man was carrying a "weapon-like object" at the time.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident. The police had already identified the suspect early on and later took him into custody. A criminal case has been initiated; further details regarding the arrest and charges are not being disclosed at this stage.
