Police in London arrested supporters of Palestine Action outside the UK Supreme Court on Wednesday, 4 November, as a legal fight over the British government's ban on the group resumed. If the appeal succeeds, charges linked to the ban could be affected.

Footage shows demonstrators lying on the pavement while groups of officers lifted them and carried them to a waiting police van. Other protesters kept holding placards.

Police said 25 people had been detained on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organisation under the Terrorism Act, and that more arrests were expected.

The legal challenge

The case was brought by Huda Ammori, a co-founder of Palestine Action, who is seeking to overturn the group's designation as a terrorist organisation.

The court heard that Palestine Action is the first of 98 proscribed groups to be banned solely for causing serious property damage, rather than for advocating violence against people.

Scale of arrests

According to the information presented, more than 4,000 arrests have been made under the ban. These include 325 people detained outside the US embassy on 31 October.
