Biodiversity Demonstration Zone Planned for Lucavsala Island in Riga
A four-hectare biodiversity demonstration zone is planned for the Kazas sēklis area of Lucavsala, an island near Riga city center known for its unique ecosystem.

Lucavsala, located just minutes from Riga's city center, is one of the few places in the capital where one can feel as if in the countryside. The island's ecosystem is unique, hosting beavers, roe deer, and other wildlife.
In one part of Lucavsala, known as Kazas sēklis, authorities plan to create a four-hectare biodiversity demonstration zone. This area will serve as a model for promoting biodiversity in urban environments.
The project is still in the planning stage, with discussions ongoing on how best to integrate the zone into the existing landscape while preserving the island's natural character. No specific implementation timeline has been announced yet.
