macOS beta code leak reveals HomePod with display and other new Apple home devices

Apple's macOS 26.7 beta contains an unusually large number of references to unreleased products, including a HomePod with a touchscreen, a tabletop robot, and a new HomePod mini generation. The code offers the first concrete clues about how these devices might work.

A recent macOS 26.7 beta has revealed an unusually large batch of references to unreleased Apple products, offering a glimpse of what's coming next for the company's smart home lineup. The most notable find is a device codenamed "HomeAccessory," widely believed to be the long-rumored HomePod with a built-in screen.

A screen with customizable "faces"

Today's HomePod is essentially a smart speaker with Siri and a touch-sensitive surface for media controls, lacking any real interactive display. The leaked code suggests the new device will run a variant of tvOS, but with a distinct interface: its home screen will feature "Faces" and a "Face Gallery," resembling Apple Watch faces on a larger scale. These faces appear customizable with widgets and Smart Stacks, which would rotate the information shown throughout the day.

One notable detail concerns privacy: the device seems able to detect whether the user's iPhone is nearby before deciding whether to display personal information in its widgets. The code also points to support for placing iPhone widgets on the device, similar to how Handoff works with Mac, along with Siri and App Intents support.

Earlier rumors pointed to a more square design. The code contains references to both "HomeAccessory" and "HomeAccessory_wall," confirming plans for a wall-mountable version as well.

A tabletop robot and a refreshed HomePod mini

The beta also includes references to the codename J595, tied to a previously rumored tabletop robot with a display mounted on a rotating robotic arm, first reported by Bloomberg. That product isn't expected to launch soon, likely not before 2027.

Additionally, the code references a codename B525, pointing to a next-generation HomePod mini. Expectations should stay modest, though, as it's expected to be a minor update — likely bringing new color options rather than major new features.

The same beta reportedly contains references to future iPhone, AirPods, iPad and Mac models as well, though no further details were disclosed.
