Maple Leafs and Flyers Swap Goaltenders
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers have exchanged goaltenders Joseph Woll and Samuel Ersson, along with defensemen and a draft pick.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers have reached an agreement on a trade involving their goaltenders.
Toronto sent goaltender Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit to Philadelphia. In return, the Maple Leafs acquired goaltender Samuel Ersson, defenseman Emil Andrae, and a third-round pick in the upcoming draft.
The Maple Leafs struggled defensively this season, allowing an average of 3.6 goals per game, which ranked second-last in the league. Woll’s numbers were also unimpressive: in 39 games he posted an .899 save percentage and a 3.34 goals-against average, both career worsts. Woll is set to earn an average of $3.7 million per season over the next two years.
Ersson’s performance was not a significant upgrade – in 30 games he had an .870 save percentage and 3.12 GAA. However, his contract is more team-friendly: the Swedish netminder will cost Toronto only $1.45 million next season.
Benoit recorded six assists in 73 games last season, while Andrae notched 13 points (2+11) in 61 regular-season contests.
Last season, the Maple Leafs missed the playoffs, while the Flyers advanced to the second round.
