Morocco this week once again brought to the forefront its long-standing territorial claims over Melilla and Ceuta, two Spanish-administered enclaves on the North African coast. The territories have recently featured prominently in the news due to a migrant crisis that erupted in late July.

Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi stated that his country holds "historical and geographical" rights to both territories. He called for the creation of a dialogue platform with Spain to discuss their future status.

Spain, however, has firmly rejected Morocco's proposal, making clear it is not willing to discuss the status of Melilla and Ceuta. The two cities have been a point of contention between Madrid and Rabat for decades, but Spain considers them an integral part of its national territory.

The dispute over the enclaves has resurfaced amid the recent migrant crisis, which drew international attention to border issues in the region. It remains unclear whether or how this situation will affect future relations between Spain and Morocco.
