Marupe municipality sees growing child numbers — new schools and kindergartens needed
While many Latvian municipalities are closing schools due to falling pupil numbers, Marupe municipality faces the opposite problem, with a rising child population creating a shortage of places in kindergartens and schools. A new kindergarten opens there this autumn, and the municipality also plans to expand its school network.

With just two weeks left before the new school year begins, Latvia's municipalities present starkly different pictures. While a shrinking number of pupils has forced some municipalities to close schools, Marupe municipality faces the opposite trend — its population, and particularly the number of children, keeps growing, leading to a shortage of places in both preschools and schools.
New kindergarten opening this autumn
To ease the shortage of preschool places, Marupe municipality will open a new kindergarten this autumn. It will help accommodate children who previously could not find spots in existing facilities.
School network expansion also planned
The municipality is not limiting its response to preschool education alone. It also plans to expand the school network in the future to ensure enough places for the growing number of pupils in the area.
Teacher shortage a concern too
The rapidly rising number of children brings another challenge for the Marupe municipality: finding enough teachers and specialists able to provide the necessary support to children. This issue is becoming increasingly pressing as the influx of residents into the municipality continues.
