A Moscow court has arrested Kirill Suvorov, a former adviser to the head of the city’s Krasnoselsky district, on charges of spreading 'fake news' about the army, the Telegram news channel Ostorozhno Novosti reported. The charges stem from videos Suvorov posted on social media, including anti-war speeches and poetry on his YouTube channel.
The Moscow courts website lists a case file for Suvorov K.A. under the statute on spreading 'fake news' about the military (Article 207.3, Part 2, Point 'd,' of the Criminal Code). The case reached court on July 3, when a hearing was also held on his pretrial detention, but no outcome is listed.
From 2017, Suvorov served as a municipal adviser first to Krasnoselsky district head Ilya Yashin and then to his successor, Yelena Kotenochkina. Both were convicted on 'fake news' charges related to the army after the start of the full-scale war — Yashin in person, Kotenochkina, who had by then left Russia, in absentia. Suvorov resigned in 2022.
In the summer of 2022, Suvorov was jailed several times for administrative offenses that included inciting hatred, displaying Nazi symbols, equating the actions of the USSR with those of Nazi Germany, and 'discrediting' the army — all based on his anti-war publications.
