Mobile internet to be restricted in central Moscow during two summits, October 27–29
Russia's Digital Development Ministry says mobile internet access in central Moscow may be restricted from October 27 to 29 for security reasons. The measure is linked to the Gas Exporting Countries Forum and the Russia-Africa summit.
Russia's Digital Development Ministry has announced that mobile internet access in central Moscow may be restricted from October 27 to 29. The stated reason is security during two international events: a summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, an organization of gas-producing states, and the Russia-Africa summit.
Where and when
The restrictions are planned within the Third Ring Road, a major ring route around the city centre, and only during the day. They will begin at 11:30 a.m. on October 27 and 28, and at 9:30 a.m. on October 29.
The ministry said that websites on the exemption list, voice calls and Wi-Fi will remain available in Moscow on those days.
Event schedule
The Gas Exporting Countries Forum summit will take place in Moscow on October 27. The Russia-Africa summit will follow on October 28 and 29.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said earlier that 22 African leaders would attend the Russia-Africa summit. The presidents of Iran and Equatorial Guinea, along with the emir of Qatar, will attend the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
