Manchester United drew 1-1 at Leeds United in an English Premier League football match at Elland Road, extending their winless run to six games. It is their worst such streak since 2018-19, when form collapsed after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was confirmed as permanent manager. United finished the day 13th in the league table and could slip further before the round of fixtures is complete.

Mbeumo the bright spot

Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo scored again, his fourth goal in seven Premier League appearances. In Michael Carrick's squad, only Bruno Fernandes has scored more than one league goal this season, having netted a hat-trick against Ipswich in August.

Carrick told BBC Radio 5 Live he had "the headphones on" this week, so he had not heard the outside noise around Lisandro Martinez's comments. Before the game, the defender had criticised sporting director Jason Wilcox and the club hierarchy for what he saw as ineffective summer recruitment. Martinez later apologised for the timing and forum of his remarks, though not for the words themselves. He started the match but went off at half-time with a thigh injury. Wilcox watched from the stands.

The left-back position remains unsettled: Diogo Dalot became the fifth different player to start there this season. It is unclear whether Luke Shaw will be fit for Wednesday's Champions League trip to Serie A side Como. When Martinez went off, Carrick brought on full-back Noussair Mazraoui rather than Matthijs de Ligt, whose fitness is considered delicate after almost 11 months out with a back problem.

Manager stays upbeat

Carrick said the afternoon felt like "a bit of a fresh start", adding that he was not accepting the situation as great and was being realistic. He said the team must stay stable and keep doing the right things, and that he had no doubts a good run was possible.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool and England defender, said that avoiding defeat at Leeds is being viewed as positive, but that this reflects lowered standards. In the same fixture last season, Ruben Amorim gave an explosive press conference and was dismissed within 24 hours.
