NHL: Calgary Ends Champions' Win Streak, Minnesota Still Perfect at Home
In the National Hockey League, the Calgary Flames beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2, ending the reigning Stanley Cup champions' seven-game winning streak. The Minnesota Wild beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1, and Kirill Kaprizov became the first player in the league to reach ten goals this season.

In the NHL, North America's top professional ice hockey league, the Calgary Flames won 3-2 at home against the Carolina Hurricanes, the current Stanley Cup champions. It was Carolina's first defeat after seven straight wins. The Minnesota Wild, meanwhile, beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 at home and have yet to lose on their own ice this season.
Calgary Stops Carolina's Streak
Yegor Sharangovich scored the decisive goal with four minutes and 28 seconds left in regulation. Morgan Frost moved the puck across to the far side of the ice, and Sharangovich fired it into the top corner past goaltender Brandon Bussi. Frost also scored on the power play in the second period, and Matvei Gridin added another goal for Calgary. Goaltender Devin Cooley made 34 saves, helping the Flames earn only their second win in eight games this season. Carolina's goals came from Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jalen Chatfield, while Bussi stopped 31 shots.
The Flames became the first team this season to score a go-ahead goal in the last five minutes of regulation in more than one game. Calgary has ended an opponent's winning streak of at least seven games for the ninth time in club history, and for the first time since the 2022-23 season. Frost collected a goal and an assist in his 400th NHL game. After the loss, Carolina's record stands at seven wins, two regulation losses and one overtime loss.
Kaprizov Reaches Ten Goals
In Minnesota, Kirill Kaprizov scored the winner on the power play early in the second period. Shooting from the left faceoff circle, he beat Columbus goaltender Cam Talbot and, with ten goals, leads the NHL's goal-scoring list this season. In the first period, Danila Yurov opened the scoring on an assist from Yakov Trenin, and Adam Fantilli levelled about a minute later during a delayed penalty. Minnesota goaltender Jesper Wallstedt made 13 saves, while Talbot made 32.
The Wild have won all four of their home games this season, a first in ten years and the sixth time in club history. Kaprizov is the first Minnesota player to reach ten goals in a season ahead of every other NHL player. He has taken part in 78 game-winning goals in his career, passing Marian Gaborik and moving into third place in club history behind Mikko Koivu (122) and Zach Parise (86).
