Maine Senate Race Implodes, Meta’s Threads Reaches 500M Users, and Trump Phone Ships
Democratic candidate Graham Platner steps down amid sexual abuse allegations, Meta's Threads hits 500 million monthly users, and the Trump-branded T1 phone finally starts shipping after months of delays.

Political Crisis in Maine
The Maine Senate race has been thrown into chaos as Democratic candidate Graham Platner faces multiple controversies, including allegations of sexual abuse. Calls for his resignation have mounted, and he has now stepped down. The fast-moving crisis has become a major talking point ahead of the midterm elections.
Threads Reaches 500 Million Users
Meta’s social platform Threads, a direct competitor to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter), has announced it has reached 500 million monthly active users. Although initially criticized for being over-moderated and feeling like LinkedIn, the platform has found a niche with specific communities, such as K-pop and book discussions. While it now rivals X in user numbers, doubts remain about actual engagement, as many users are funneled from Instagram and the platform does not primarily serve news.
Trump Phone Finally Arrives
After multiple delays, the Trump-branded T1 phone has started shipping to customers. Announced last summer at a Trump Tower event by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, the phone was initially advertised as an “All-American” device. Priced at $499, it comes with Truth Social preinstalled and is a basic Android phone with minimal features. Reports indicate that around 600,000 deposits were made, but the exact number of shipped units remains unclear. The terms of the deposits are murky, and the original promise of U.S.-only manufacturing has been dropped.
