Meta to End Quest 2 and Quest Pro OS Updates in 2027
Meta has announced that the last operating system update for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro VR headsets will be released by March 2027. The company now calls the Quest 3 and 3S the baseline for its VR gamers.
Meta, the US technology company behind the Quest virtual reality (VR) headsets, has announced that operating system updates for its older Quest 2 and Quest Pro models will come to an end. The final system version, planned as v213, is due by March 2027. After that point, owners of both devices will no longer receive new features through OS updates.
Security fixes will continue
Following the release of v213, Meta will keep shipping security patches and critical bug fixes through the end of 2027. Developers will also be able to submit apps that support the Quest 2 or Quest Pro through December 2027.
Focus shifts to newer models
Meta describes the Quest 3 and Quest 3S as "now the baseline for Meta VR gamers." The company made the announcement ahead of the planned launch of a new device, its VR Glasses, which are set to go on sale sometime in spring 2027.
The decision affects users and developers of both older headsets, who will need to keep in mind the set deadlines: the end of OS updates, the period of security fixes, and the final date for submitting compatible apps.
