Meta launches AI pet app Waddle World
Meta, the US social media and technology company, has released Waddle World in the Philippines on iOS and Android. The app lets users raise a virtual pet, in the style of Tamagotchi, with AI features.

Meta, the social media company that has been rapidly experimenting with AI apps, has launched a new app called Waddle World in the Philippines on both iOS and Android. It resembles a Tamagotchi-style virtual pet game, but with AI built in. The app was spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra.
TechCrunch notes that the launch may be only a test, but it could also precede a Tamagotchi-like gadget from the company powered by Muse. The outlet has asked Meta about wider availability and says it will update its report if the company responds.
What the app offers
Users can pick and raise a virtual pet, feed it and play with it. Meta describes Waddle World as a cozy 16-bit world where a pixel pet lives. The description stresses that there are no streaks to protect, no scores to chase and no pressure. It says the app is not a chatbot, an assistant or a productivity tool, and Meta does not want it to be a habit builder. It is rated as suitable for users over 18.
The app also works as a journal: users describe their day by voice or text, and the pet listens and writes up an entry in its own voice, accompanied by a doodle. It also includes mini-games that last a few minutes and can send a weekly email based on what it has learned about the user.
Context
According to TechCrunch, Meta may be avoiding companion-app territory because Character.AI and OpenAI have faced lawsuits alleging their products harmed teenagers. Until now, Meta has released other AI-centred apps, including Pocket, which lets users vibe-code games, and Vibes, which generates videos quickly.
