On Tuesday, June 12, 2026, users worldwide encountered significant disruptions across Meta's platforms. Problems began surfacing on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, with reports spiking on DownDetector shortly after 9:00 AM ET.
Andy Stone, Meta's Vice President of Communications, posted on X: "We're aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We're working on it." Later, around 12:38 PM ET, he added: "We're coming back, though it may take a bit of time for everything to be fully back to normal."
Meta Status, which tracks outages across Meta's services, reported "high disruptions" for several services. The company issued an update on its website stating that engineers are investigating the issue and that it will provide an update within an hour or sooner if more information becomes available.
According to DownDetector, reports peaked at around 20,000 at 11:00 AM ET. Some users reported being automatically logged out of Facebook. Instagram remained accessible for most users but displayed an outdated feed. Members of the Engadget team noted that after 12:38 PM ET, some Facebook and Instagram feeds began to return, but the status page still showed significant red, indicating the outage remained widespread.
Meta confirmed the issue and assured users that engineers are working on a resolution, promising further updates as they become available.
