Meta rolls out Muse, a new AI image generator
Meta has unveiled a free AI image generator called Muse, available across its apps and services including Instagram Stories and WhatsApp.

Meta has released its new AI image generator, Muse Image, developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, the company's dedicated AI unit. The project, internally code-named Mango, will be available for free through the Meta AI app, as well as in Instagram Stories and WhatsApp.
Muse offers capabilities similar to other AI image generators, allowing users to create playful and cartoonish images. For those lacking inspiration, Meta provides pre-built image prompts called "presets" to spark ideas. Additional use cases include creating custom ads and experimenting with interior decoration—for example, visualizing how a used couch might look in a garage. This latter function integrates with Facebook Marketplace, Meta's popular platform for used goods.
Muse also features prompt-based image editing, enabling users to insert themselves in front of a historical landmark, remove photobombers from the background, or generate a functional QR code. At the same time, Meta is launching new AI effects for Instagram Stories powered by Muse, including customizable filters for modifying existing photos.
Meta states that using Muse is free for "everyday creation," but after a certain limit, users will need to subscribe to Meta's plans. The company also revealed that Muse Video—presumably an AI video generator—is already in development. Over the past year, Meta has released several AI tools, including an assistant called Creator and an app for vibe-coding video games called Pocket. Despite facing criticism for a nebulous AI strategy, Meta remains on track to spend heavily on AI infrastructure this year.
