On June 16, while conducting a planned inspection of young forest stands in the Limbaži forest district, Rūdolfs Rubezis, a forestry master at JSC "Latvian State Forests" (LVM), noticed animals on a remote forest road. Initially, he thought it was a group of wild boars, a common sight in Latvian forests. However, as he drove closer, he realized they were actually four bear cubs.

Instead of fleeing, the cubs showed curiosity about the approaching vehicle. They stood on their hind legs to get a better view of the unexpected visitor. Nearby, in the thicket, the mother bear was visible, carefully monitoring the surroundings. Rubezis managed to record this unique encounter on video, which was later shared by LVM on social media.

The LVM employee admitted he was surprised because bears are not an everyday occurrence in Latvia. Such encounters with a bear family are rare and indicate the presence of bear populations in the region.
