Ministry Proposes Scrapping Six-Month Ban for Taxi Drivers Over Violations

Latvia's Ministry of Transport has prepared amendments to Cabinet of Ministers regulations concerning the registration of taxi drivers. Under the current rules, a driver who receives an administrative penalty for violating passenger commercial transport regulations is barred from registration or removed from the Taxi Drivers Register for a period of six months.

The ministry's proposed amendments would do away with this six-month restriction mechanism. If adopted, drivers penalized administratively for such violations would no longer automatically face a half-year suspension or removal from the register.

The amendments are still in the drafting stage, and their further progress through the legislative approval process has not yet been specified.
