Tiger Shroff, an actor in Bollywood, India's Hindi-language film industry, was targeted in a shooting on Sunday evening in Juhu, a suburb of Mumbai, but suffered no gunshot wounds, according to Indian police, who are investigating. The attack adds to a series of violent incidents involving prominent figures in the country and has heightened concern about their safety.

What happened

The 36-year-old was in a car leaving a football club in Juhu when the shots were fired. Several news outlets have published a video that shows at least two gunmen firing repeatedly at close range at the front passenger seat of the vehicle, which was moving slowly past a crowd.

Local media reported that two people were injured, including Shroff's driver.

Official reaction

Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister of Maharashtra state, where Mumbai is located, visited Shroff on Sunday evening after the attack. He said the actor and his mother had been left "shaken". Shinde stated that such attempts at intimidation would not be tolerated and that the authorities would put an end to this hooliganism.

Earlier attacks

In recent years, several of India's best-known public figures have been victims of targeted attacks. In 2024, police arrested two members of a criminal gang over a gun attack on the home of Bollywood actor Salman Khan. In the same year, influential politician Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai.

Shroff is the son of two actors. He made his acting debut in 2014 with the romance film Heropanti and has since starred in several films. He is also a football enthusiast and plays for the professional club Mumbay FC.
