Following Russia's war in Ukraine, security concerns have become paramount for Latvia's museum sector. To discuss crisis preparedness, the Latvian Radio program 'Kultūras rondo' featured representatives from several museums and local municipality specialists. Particular attention was paid to border regions, where threats are more immediate. Participants emphasized that crisis plans should not only be theoretical but must be regularly tested in practice. Museums face specific challenges, such as evacuating valuable exhibits and ensuring their preservation during potential danger. The need for closer cooperation with local authorities and emergency services was also highlighted. Although many museums have already developed action plans, participants acknowledged that much remains to be done to make them fully effective. The discussion noted that crisis plans must be flexible enough to adapt to various scenarios, from natural disasters to military threats.
