The Daile Music House will host the traditional blues concert of the Bildes music and art festival on Wednesday, 28 October. It will bring together several Latvian blues musicians, including vocalist Mirta, who has lived in the British Isles for a long time, with her band Hot Acoustics. Bildes is a meeting place for Latvian musicians and artists and takes place every autumn.

As usual, the concert will be hosted by rock musician Jānis Bukums. He recalls the saying that the blues is born when a good person feels bad, and stresses that rock and metal grew out of the blues.

The line-up

Performers include Ainars Pūpols with Blues Soldiers, Vocada, Vanadziņa Trio+, Antonija Dombrovska and Vjačeslavs Mitrohins, Edgars Rubenis with Gundars Rullis, Royal Foxes and Mārtiņš Balodis, Roberts Zīle, Māris Repšs with Los Pulidos, as well as Mirta & Hot Acoustics. The organisers particularly highlight blues guitar virtuoso Jānis Vanadziņš, as well as Mirta and Jevgēnijs Krupeņins, who are rarely seen in Latvia.

Mirta Krupeņina says there are so few notes in the blues that a musician cannot hide behind musical harmony. In her words, audiences appreciate improvisation through emotion and maximum honesty. She also notes that Jānis Vanadziņš and Ainars Pūpols never lie on stage, because the blues is their whole life.

Surprises

The concert promises to be full of surprises. Guitarist Edgars Rubenis will perform with Gundars Rullis of the band Alis P, and a brand-new repertoire has been prepared for the festival. Listeners will hear a folk-blues piece and a special new composition dedicated to Alan Wilson, a musician of the American blues-rock band Canned Heat.

Edgars describes the event briefly: Bildes is a celebration, and he wants to share the experience with people.
