Oil tanker hit by projectile in Strait of Hormuz near Oman

An oil tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman was struck by a projectile in the early hours of Tuesday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency. The vessel sustained damage, but no injuries or deaths were reported.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategically vital shipping routes, carrying a substantial share of global oil exports. Tensions in the area have been elevated amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Diplomatic efforts

On Monday, Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, state television reported, as part of Islamabad's efforts to help mediate an end to the regional conflict.

Iran's stance on sanctions

Iranian Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh said he expects the United States to suffer "another defeat," claiming Iran has a two-year strategy in place to counter Washington's latest round of sanctions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his two sons, though he did not provide additional details.
