A fire broke out on the evening of 26 October in a disused former kindergarten building on Pimeaia Street in the Estonian city of Narva. Rescuers fully extinguished the blaze in just under three hours, and nobody was injured. The information comes from the Ida Rescue Centre (Ida päästekeskus), the regional rescue service.
The call and arrival
The Emergency Centre received a report of the fire at 19:20 on 26 October. The person who raised the alarm noticed flames coming out of the second-floor windows.
Rescue crews from Narva, Narva-Jõesuu and Sillamäe quickly arrived at the scene in the Temny Sad ("Dark Garden") area, along with an ambulance team. On arrival, rescuers saw that the fire was already starting to spread to the building's windbreak entrance.
Firefighting
Firefighters began tackling the hot spots immediately. At the same time, a rescue vehicle was connected to a hydrant to provide a water supply.
Rescuers checked the entire building: the first and second floors, as well as the attic. No one was inside. The Ida Rescue Centre said: "Fortunately, there were no people inside."
By 20:14 the fire had been contained. Rescuers then continued dismantling structures and dousing areas of hidden burning. The fire was fully extinguished by 22:10.
About the building
