Narva's garden cooperative flooding problem remains unresolved
Narva city authorities admit that the flooding problem in garden cooperatives after heavy rains in 2025 has not been fully solved. An audit is pending and funding of 2.5 million euros is needed.

Narva authorities acknowledge that the problem of flooding in garden cooperatives following heavy rainfall in 2025 has not yet been completely resolved. Throughout the year, all interested parties cleaned drainage channels, but a final solution remains distant.
Mayor Katri Raik believes the issue requires a systematic approach and that the results of an audit are needed to determine the sequence of extensive works. According to Raik, the audit will show how to clean ditches for each of the more than 30 cooperatives, who owns them, and which areas are the most difficult or dangerous.
One of the biggest challenges is funding. Raik estimates the total cost at around 2.5 million euros. A similar amount was calculated last year, but no funding source was found. The city is now awaiting the audit to proceed.
In the near future, ditch cleaning in the garden cooperative areas will continue, funded by the supplementary city budget adopted in June. Narva authorities have also reached out to state institutions for cooperation.
