Representatives of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the United States, Ukraine, European countries and the European Union met in Brussels on 5 November. The aim was to help achieve a just and lasting end to the war in Ukraine. NATO spokeswoman Allison Hart explained this in a comment to the outlet Evropeiska Pravda. The meeting took place ahead of planned trilateral talks between the US, Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi.

Hart said the Brussels meeting continued the "fruitful discussions" held in Miami and Oslo. According to her, its purpose was to support a just and sustainable end to the war.

Security guarantees and European security

Rustem Umerov, who heads Ukraine's negotiating team and Ukraine's foreign intelligence service, described what was discussed after the Brussels meetings. Representatives of Ukraine, the US, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and NATO talked about future security guarantees for Ukraine from the United States and other partners. They also discussed a new European security strategy.

What happened the day before

On 4 November, consultations were held at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels. Participants included representatives of Ukraine, the US, the UK, France and Germany, as well as NATO, the World Bank and the European Commission. They worked on preparing Ukraine's Prosperity Plan, which is meant to set out mechanisms for post-war reconstruction. They also discussed financing for Ukraine in 2027.

These meetings come before trilateral talks between the US, Ukraine and Russia. The talks will take place on 10–11 November in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, and are to focus on next steps toward peace.
