The commander of the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia has confirmed that allied troops intend to stay in Latgale, the eastern region of the country. The brigade is a unit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) stationed in Latvia. Allies have already been in Daugavpils for several months, and plans call for strengthening their presence in other parts of eastern Latvia as well.

The largest exercise so far

From 26 October to 8 November, the border zone will host the biggest exercise yet held by the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia. About 3,000 service members are due to take part.

Goals and engagement with residents

The Latgale editorial team of LSM, Latvia's public broadcaster, looked into what the allies aim to achieve in Latgale, what they are learning from the Latvian National Guard (Zemessardze), and how they intend to earn the trust of local residents. The headline of the original report highlights the idea that it matters most for residents to see the allies.
