Nauris Miezis: I am confident I will win more big victories
Latvian 3x3 basketball player Nauris Miezis, after winning the world championship, says he will continue his career and believes in more achievements.
Nauris Miezis, who along with Kārlis Lasmanis is the only 3x3 basketball player in the world to have won all three major titles – Olympic, World, and European champion – admits that the path to this achievement was very difficult.
He notes that the team's chemistry was not perfect at the start of the tournament, as the players had been with different clubs in Japan, China, and Mongolia, and the training camp lasted only four or five days. However, during the tournament they found their rhythm and won.
Miezis especially thanks his first coach Andris Eglītis, who introduced him to basketball, and coach Jānis Rimbenieks. He says that without their support he would not have reached these heights.
Upon returning to Latvia, Miezis was welcomed at the “Daugava” sports hall and in Ķekava, where the event was moved to the high school sports complex due to rain. He describes the welcome as warm and heartfelt.
When asked about retiring, Miezis says he will continue playing because he feels in good shape and is confident of more big victories. He advises young people to never give up and to fight until the end.
