Lithuania’s Nausėda welcomes Finnish and Norwegian efforts to end Ukraine war
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said on Tuesday that all efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine on terms acceptable to Kyiv should be welcomed. He spoke after a call with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who briefed him on a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said on Tuesday that all efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine should be welcomed, provided the terms are acceptable to Kyiv, his office reported. The statement followed a telephone call with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who briefed him on a recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The call with Putin
Stubb said on Tuesday that he and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre had held an “open and detailed” conversation with Putin. The Finnish president and the Norwegian prime minister spoke on behalf of their respective countries, not the European Union or NATO. Stubb gave Nausėda the details of the exchange.
Lithuania’s position
According to the Lithuanian President’s Office, Nausėda welcomes efforts to end the war on terms acceptable to Ukraine. He cited, among other things, a meeting between Nordic leaders and US envoys in Oslo on October 20. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also attended, while Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, joined remotely.
Nausėda also supports European participation in negotiations on the terms of a possible peace agreement. However, the question of who would represent Europe in any such talks, and under what mandate, remains open, his office said.
