Rain to cover most of Latvia this week, wind to pick up by weekend

Rain showers are forecast across most of Latvia on Thursday and Friday, with stronger wind expected by the end of the week. Temperatures will dip slightly at the start of next week.

According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, Thursday will bring cloudy skies with some clearing in places. Overnight into Thursday, a band of precipitation will move across the country from the west, bringing rain to most of the territory, with heavy rain possible in places in the east. Showers are expected to continue intermittently during the day.

On Thursday, winds will be light to moderate from the south and southwest, gradually shifting to southwest and west overnight and in the morning, starting from western areas. Gusty winds are expected along the coast. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +11…+15°C, while daytime highs will reach +15…+18°C.

Weekend outlook

Light rain is expected in places overnight into Friday, with rain reaching the Kurzeme region in the afternoon. On Saturday, intermittent rain is forecast across most of the country. Light to moderate south and southwest winds will persist both days — gusty mainly along the coast on Friday, while on Saturday gusts will extend across a wider area of Kurzeme.

Overnight into Friday, temperatures will fall to +8…+11°C, while along the coast and across the whole country overnight into Saturday it will be warmer, at +11…+16°C. Daytime temperatures both days will reach +16…+20°C.

By the end of the week, wind is expected to turn gusty across a wider area, with precipitation forecast for nearly the entire country. Temperatures are expected to cool slightly at the start of next week.
