Netanyahu Pitches a New, More Hawkish Image Ahead of Elections
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to persuade voters of a reinvented, tougher version of himself ahead of elections. The Oct. 7 attacks had damaged his reputation as the leader who guarantees security.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing for upcoming elections by offering voters a new version of his political persona, The New York Times reported on Oct. 24.
For years Netanyahu cultivated an image as the politician who could be trusted with the country's security, earning the nickname "Mr. Security." That reputation was damaged by the Oct. 7 attacks, the 2023 assault on Israel by Hamas militants, which was among the most serious security failures in the country's history.
Now, according to the report, the prime minister is trying to sell Israelis on a new, markedly hawkish version of himself, meaning one that stresses a tough, force-oriented approach to security. What remains to be seen is whether voters will consider this reinvention enough to restore their confidence in his ability to keep the country safe.
The answer could shape the election outcome and, with it, Israel's next government and its security policy.
