Netflix reportedly considers adding always-on channels
In response to declining engagement, Netflix is weighing the introduction of always-on channels and bundles with other streaming services, aiming to reverse the trend.

Netflix is exploring the addition of always-on channels that would stream specific shows and movies, according to The Wall Street Journal. This would resemble services like Pluto TV and Tubi, though those platforms are free because of advertisements. Netflix's ad-supported tier, which costs $8.99 per month after a recent price increase, has been gaining popularity.
The company is also reportedly considering offering bundles that include other streaming services, a move already made by competitors such as Apple TV and Prime Video. The WSJ notes that Netflix has observed signs of falling user engagement, prompting these potential changes.
This development follows a Bloomberg report that Netflix has been investigating why second seasons of its shows experience significant viewership drops. Recently, Netflix has been adding new types of content, including video podcasts and material from digital media brands like BuzzFeed and Condé Nast, which are easy to play in the background without requiring focused attention.
Netflix spokesperson Adrian Zamora declined to comment.
