The fourth season of the political drama The Diplomat has been available on the streaming platform Netflix since 15 October. The series is set in the world of diplomacy: Keri Russell plays the US ambassador to the United Kingdom, while Rufus Sewell plays her husband, described as the grey cardinal of diplomatic circles. The season is reviewed by the Latvian magazine Ir.

A screenwriter with long experience

The series was created by Debora Kahn, an American screenwriter and producer. The magazine writes that she is one of the most influential and respected figures in television writing, even though she does not work under constant spotlights. She entered the industry more than 20 years ago, when she began writing scripts for the popular political series The West Wing in 2002. Her credits also include Grey's Anatomy and the spy thriller Homeland.

Earlier seasons and themes

The first three seasons of The Diplomat were released annually, starting in 2023. According to the review, viewers who followed those seasons and Kahn's other work may agree that political intrigue and relationship drama in diplomatic corridors is the meeting point of her screen career so far. As in The West Wing, the show reveals political back-room dealings and the people who run them, usually hidden from public view. The reviewer adds that even ordinary diplomacy contains many unexpected and unpredictable turns, much like a spy drama.
