Netflix and Sega have agreed to develop several new film and TV adaptations of video games. Among the first projects underway is a movie based on the Crazy Taxi series. The script is being written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who wrote last year's well-received reboot of The Naked Gun. The project appears to be a live-action comedy, and it will likely be released after the next entry in the series, Crazy Taxi World Tour, which is scheduled to launch next year.

A second project is a live-action crime film based on Stranger Than Heaven, the upcoming title from RGG Studio, the developer behind the Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise. The action-adventure game is set to launch on PC and consoles on January 15.

In addition, Netflix will host another animated Sonic series, following up on Sonic Prime. The new show is aimed at preschool-age children, and Netflix described it in a press release as a high-energy, comedic yet emotionally grounded series designed to give young viewers a sense of edge, attitude and belonging to a crew.

Netflix already has numerous other game adaptations in development, including a live-action Assassin's Creed series set in ancient Rome and a reality cooking competition show based on Overcooked. Over the weekend at BlizzCon, Blizzard announced that an animated series based on Diablo is coming to Netflix, while hinting that adaptations of other franchises are also in the works. Before any of these arrive, a second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is set to premiere on Netflix next month.
